To that end, it has decreed that all schools and educational institutions would be closed for the day, and urged businesses to give the day off to their workers. Most government services are also expected to be closed for the day, while the nationalized train system has been requisitioned for the day to provide free transportation to people traveling to the demonstration in Belgrade.
06 Apr 2007 (Ministry of Work, Health and Social Afairs) On March 29, 2007, as a corollary to the June 2006 separation of Montenegro, the Serbian Government announced that Constitution Day (April 27) will no longer be a public holiday in Serbia, as that date referred to the constitution of the former entity. From now on, the Constitution Day public holiday will be observed on February 15, formerly the date of Serbia's National Day.
29 Jan 2007 (Hufvudstadsbladet) U.N. Plan Paves Way for Kosovo Independence. If the United Nations Security Council approves the plan, Kosovo is expected to quickly declare its independence and could expect swift recognition from its American and European supporters, even if Serbia rejected such a move. We will soon be adding Kosovo to the list of countries covered by the Q++ Studio Worlwide Public Holidays Database.
03 Jan 2007 The Belgrade Stock Exhange (BELEX) will be closed until January 8, 2007.
01 Dec 2006 Next parliamentary elections - January 21, 2007.

Governing Law: Official public holidays in Serbia are regulated by the 2001 Labour Code (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No. 70/2001 of 13 December 2001).
In 2005 Serbia celebrated the Second Day of May Day on May 3rd since Orthodox Easter Monday was on May 1.
Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that occur on a Sunday are moved to the following Monday.
Other days of note but which are not public holidays are:
Saint Sava (Spirituality Day): January 27th,
Victory Day (May 9) which, despite being an official public holiday, is nonetheless a working day in Serbia and in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
Saint Vitus' Day: June 28th. |
